The Sewing Army was created in March of 2020 to respond to the shortage of PPE for Healthcare, Essential Workers, low income & non profit organizations during the COVID-19 crisis. The group brought together over 3700 volunteers across North America to sew & donate PPE for organizations in need. We're proud to say that by year end, we donated over 113,000 handmade PPE. Our mission as a group has come to an end, but if you'd like to join our Facebook group to share your independent PPE donations or if you're looking for like minded mask makers, please join us by clicking the link at the top left of the page. If you are looking for PPE patterns and tutorials to make and donate in your own community, please click the "How to start for sewists" above. Thank you.
Thank you to Toronto Councilor Paula Fletcher and Mayor John Tory for recognizing our group as a Comminity Hero during the Covid 19 pandemic. Bravo to every volunteer who made our essential workers and those in need more safe through 2020 ❤️ #eastendlove #toronto #heros #thankyouessentialworkers...
I’m so happy to announce that the donated sewing machines from @brothercanada to our group last year are moving on to help more people. Coordinated efforts through the help of Darci Cheyne @redfirefae & shipment by the University of Guelph Indigenous Student Society @uog_iss , we’ve donated 3 machines to Nunavut.
Machine 1 is going to Jimmy Hikok Ilihakvik Elementary School. Machine 2 is going to Kugluktuk High School & machine 3 is going to Cape Dorset. Darci included mask patterns, samples, elastic and some cotton too. Bravo to Brother Canada, Darci & U of G for making this happen ❤️...
If you haven’t already checked out the amazing film “A Day in the Life” then here is another reminder! (Link in bio!)
