Toronto Star-The artisans behind the protective masks

It’s a performance without a script or stage for the GTA’s performing arts industries.

But those in the theatre, film and fashion trades — from the props master on TV’s “Murdoch Mysteries” to costume designers and stitchers — have stepped into starring roles in the booming, grass-roots production of masks and protective equipment in the battle against COVID-19.

An online challenge for 1,000 masks a week from Michael Garron Hospital in East York, one of the GTA’s coronavirus assessment centres, was one of the early motivators.
